This week, after the Baking Soda Wash and ACV Rinse, one of my colleagues asked me if I colored my hair. She noted that it looked shiny and darker. Earlier last week I told one of colleagues about the  ashy accusation and though she disagreed with that observation she did think there was a noticeable difference in my hair's appearance. So I guess I must agree, my hair looked dull.

One of my anonymous posters asked why I even conditioned my hair because my locks were still immature and my response is: Because I am a conditioner junkie. But I do need to further research and follow the appropriate routines for my hair. So I do need to do better! Blar....

In a previous post I stated that I would try a Baking Soda wash and Apple Cider vinegar rinse to try and remedy my my ashy hair  because it may be caused by product buildup. Kreyola's Blog gives a great step by step on how to do this and the reasoning behind it.

Remedying Ashy Hair

In a previous post I stated that I would try a Baking Soda wash and Apple Cider vinegar rinse to try and remedy my my ashy hair  because it may be caused by product buildup. Kreyola's Blog gives a great step by step on how to do this and the reasoning behind it.

I am returning to my initial styling routine:
Let's see how this goes...

Mother, sister, daughter, friend, child of God and wonderful young woman; Faby loves living life to the fullest! When an old college pal decided to return to the natural world with a fab and fierce hairstyle I had to share this with my sisterlocked family.

Faby is a mother, wife, and fierce business woman.

My earliest memory of Faby is this:
Fierce is she not? Well this was a few years ago.

So when Faby wanted a new look and was debating which hairstyle to go with... I had to cast my vote for the BC (big chop). Sometimes people will give double sided compliments about how good another's ultra short cut is and how "I could never carry off that look". Well, I have rocked a BC or two and I must say Faby's trumps them all (even mine). So with her permission I wanted to share the debut of her new look.

It is my second big chop and I am learning a lot about my hair. This time I am taking the time to get to know and love the natural curls that God gave me.

Despite the ashy accusation, I've been having some great hair days lately.

Thanks to a commentator, I think I have discovered the root of my ashy hair symptom. A Mrs. Mac suggested the following:

Hi hun, as I was suggesting maybe have a look at the products you are using it could possibly be product build up over time which might be giving the locs a dull look, maybe try clarifying or possibly cutting down on any moisture products that you might be using or anything with too much oil. Hope that helps.
I think she maybe right. Instead of using my homemade moisturizers to thicken the thinning parts of my locks (the problem root areas), I have been using them all over and it maybe too heavy. To combat this I will be doing a clarifying treatment using baking soda and apple cider vinegar.  See the ACV instructions here.

I can't believe HE told ME that: "Wow your hair looks so luscious and black in that photo, when it kind of looks ashy in real life." Um yeah, I'll be going to Wholefoods this weekend and buying some Henna Black hair-coloring.  He realized what he said immediately and I could tell he kind of wished he could take it back. LOL

This past weekend I had tons of fun at Blogalicious! Blogalicious is a social media conference for women of color and believe me these women are awesome. But one thing I noticed, which kind of surprised me, were the amount of women with locks. Now, I do realize more and more women are opting to show case their coifs in natural styles but the shear about of naturalistas with locks surprised me! I am starting to think there is an indirect correlation between locks and artisitc creativity. :)

Solange is a woman after my personal fashion heart these days. I love the photo below of her with an amazing and chic head wrap:

I wore head wrap almost everyday for a year in undergrad, so I can appreciate the potential and versatility of a head wrap:
