I've been sent a couple of private and public messages requesting some information about cost of sisterlocks and though I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair, here are a few valid points to keep in mind if considering sisterlocks as your locking method of choice.

Also sisterlocks are not the only method for achieving small uniform locs. Interlocking, if started by a master loctician and well organized in a uniform pattern can be a VERY cost effective alternative to sisterlocks.

Kreyola's Sisterlocks Journey: Disadvantages of Sisterlocks for the Newbies...Don...:decided to write this post because I wanted to inform the newbie’s on what to considered when getting sisterlocks, and avoid the lost of time and money that is involve in getting sisterlocks, especially if you still not sure if you want sisterlocks or not. Each dreadlock technique has its own disadvantage, but as a sisterlocks wearer, I will list sisterlocks (brotherlocks) disadvantages....

I BELIEVE in the use of essential oils in hair care, skin care and various natural household uses. The following concoction should last 4-6 months even with daily use.

Materials Needed

Small dark glass jar (the best for preserving oils and preventing spoilage)
Measuring Cup

Recipe: Essential & Carrier Base Oils for Thinning Hair

7 Drops of Rosemary 100% Pure Essential Oil
5 Drops of Clary Sage 100% Pure Essential Oil
2 oz (1/4 cup) of Jamaican Black Castor Oil Carrier Base Oil
Essential oil mixtures require a carrier base oil. The more essential oil you add the more carrier oil will be required to dilute it in order to avoid irritation. To learn more about what essential oils and carrier oils are  click here.

Please note that thinning hair can be indicative of serious health problems. I have had a through blood work up by my holistic primary care physician and have spoken to more than one doctor about my thinning hair. They believe it is likely stress from my insanely busy life. Please do not use if nursing or pregnant. Please do a skin spot test before using to insure you are not allergic. Just because this is natural does not mean it will not interact poorly with your skin. Those with high blood pressure should note that rosemary is known to raise your blood pressure so consider an alternate oil like bergamot.

Rosemary essential oil on hair is mostly used to stimulate hair follicles and increase hair growth. It is highly recommended for the prevention of hair loss as well as slowing the process of hair loss.
Clary Sage is used to strengthens hair follicles, tone skin, as well as stimulate hair growth.
Black Castor Oil helps with hair growth and hair retention and serves as the carrier base oil. It is also a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungicidal fighter which in turn protects the scalp.

The Nappyloc tool is $25 and takes a million years (or two weeks to arrive). The sisterlock tool essentially costs a few hundred dollars because you have to take their training classes in order to purchase. A while back I posted how to make your own  tool from an altered yarn needle. But since my hair is long enough, I no longer have to alter and can use  the yarn needle whole. I find the needles actually caused my hair less tension and breakage than the often bulkier tools. At about $2 each they are totally worth trying.

Cost Effective Interlocking Tool

I was recently offered an opportunity to perform a review of Pantene PRO-V's truly NATURAL hair product line. Though, as most of you know, almost all the hair products in my rotation are hand blended, edible and/or organic. I still had to jump on this opportunity because many of you have relayed that though you obviously love me just the way I am, not all of you ground your hair products in a medicine bowl (like I do).

I LOVE my homemade products, but I have to admit Pantene Pro-V is not to be toyed with. Managing naturally kinky, curly and coiled hair is all about trial and error.  My lovely sister tried these products for a few days and I observed all of the results. Because my sister lives with me, most of her hair and skin care products are simple preservative, fragrance and chemical free. Mostly because she's too cheap to buy her own and I happily drive to Whole Foods to buy extravagantly natural products and/or ingredients for my entire household.  My sister's kinks and curls loved the the products I am going to highlight.

The Pantene PRO-V Truly Natural Hair includes a Clarifying Shampoo, Deep Conditioner, Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner, Shine Serum with Argan Oil and Defining Curls Styling Custard. Three products that particularly stood out were the Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner, Shine Serum and Defining Curls Custard.

After wetting her hair my sister saturated her coils with the CO-WASH Cleansing Conditioner, we are true believers in Condition-Washing, especially if you are working out like I am daily and need to cleanse your hair of sweat funk but find that shampooing everyday jeopardizes moisture retention. The cleansing conditioner left her hair so soft and smelled so good.

After CO-Washing we tried the Defining Curls Styling Custard, and the curl definition is obvious in the pictures. This made for a really rich looking twist out, especially since I manipulated her hair with hands coated with the frizz reducing shine serum.

One of the major Pros of Pantene's Truly Natural Hair line is, if compatible with your hair, it does exactly what it claims on the bottle. At about $5 a pop, it is not too hard on a girl's wallet. My only con is that the primary ingredients include the alcohol, fragrance and preservative that you will find in any major mainstream brand.

If you are on the market for a new conditioning and curl moisturizing product, I do not believe this line will disappoint you. And to prove it to you, I am giving you an opportunity to win a free full sized trial of the ENTIRE Pantene Truly Natural Hair Line! Just respond in the comments below indicating why you would love to try this awesome product. Increase your chances by tweeting or sharing on Pinterest (or other social media like instagram) with the hashtag #TrulyMe and share the link in the comment below with your contact information (email, twitter handle, etc).
