It may sound strange but these locs of mine have gave me a sense of beauty and self acceptance that no other expression of personal style ever has.

My family is trying some new products from a company I was recently introduced to, OBI Natural Hair Care. My sister and daughter have been testing their curl enhancing custard and curl moisture cream but I think their curl hydration spray might be perfect for everyday use on my sisterlocks. I don't like to try new products on dirty hair, because you don't get to see the full results. So I'm waiting until the deep hair cleansing I have planned this weekend to try OBI out.

Aging with Style and Grace
Aging with Style and Grace
I love it when I see men looking awe inspiringly handsome, fashionable and masculine all at once.
Meet Diana, a young woman that I meet many moons ago when we were just children in elementary school. Through the miracle of social media, we were able to reconnect and I was able to draw inspiration from the beauty of her hair and character. I am so pleased she has agreed to share a bit of hair, beauty, health and emotional wisdom with us. Please enjoy!
Natural Beginnings
I have been natural most of my life. I went natural before it was “cool.” I got a relaxer when I was in third grade,
and I decided to stop getting them in the sixth grade. I don’t know all the
factors that prompted my decision, but I think at the core it was about
self-acceptance. At 11 years old, I accepted that God had given me a head full
of kinky, curly, nappy hair--and I liked it.
My best friend, Kertia Duga, joined me in the process of “taking out my
perm“ (it wasn’t quite called “going natural” then), which made it double ok to
love my hair.
Products and Regime
I keep it simple--I wash/condition my hair every 3-4 weeks
and re-tighten my locks every 7-8 weeks.
I am not a product junky so I don’t know any hot new
products. As a general principle, I stay
away from anything with alcohol or a string of ingredients I can’t pronounce.
In addition to store bought products, I use homemade products for deep
conditioning because it is cost effective and I am aware of exactly what I’m
putting on my hair.
For shampoo, right now I use sisterlocks salon formula.
After washing, I use the sisterlocks moisturizer spray or Jane Carter’s
leave-in conditioner. Ninety-eight
percent of the time I let my air-dry my hair. Sometimes I braid my hair while
it is damp and take it out when it dries for a crinkly finish (braid out).

Naptural85 does amazing styles with her self installed mini twists. This could work just as well on sisterlocks, traditional locks or even braids.

Did a style similar to this to my sister's hair for church Sunday, it was regal and gorgeous! All it took was a few hair hair pins.
It was not until I had my locks that I realized how much my hair dictated my own self image, attitude, culture and style. I never realized how I hid behind hair and how freeing it was to cut it all off. As hair focused as this and so many blogs are, and yes we should be proud of our crown and love it, our hair is just a tiny portion of who we are. The beauty that we are capable of in this world as we prepare for the next, is so much larger and more integral.

A fresh re-tightening made all the difference! Because I was an hour late, my consultant (Mofe) did the front and back. I will go back this weekend to complete the middle.
I forget how a great stylist can make your locks seem so immaculate and perfect.
Check out my baby locs!
