A random video featuring myself doing a little hot bathroom hair maintenance while rocking out to my favorite King's Kaleidoscope song.

Thanks to YouTube, women of from every ethnic backgroud and walks of life have a community and a network to share and learn how to care for our hair. I love watching hair videos, even for styles and hair types that aren't similar to mine. Here are some of my favorites:
We must start with sisterlocks! A little random hair maintenance.
That fro wash and go...
Big hair, don't care.
DIY Marley Twists!
Random weave! I don't personally enjoy straight hair, but I enjoyed watching!
Boxed Braids.
Styling Boxed braids...
Essentially just a "baby hair" tutorial. LOL
More TWA curls...
Perm Rods!
4C perfection!

Recently, a young lady reached out to me via Sisterlock's Facebook page seeking some major life advice:
I'm getting my Sisterlocks installed on Monday morning. I can't wait! I love your locks and have seen so many beautiful pictures of you. Even though I'm joining the Sisterlocks club, my Mom disapproves. It's strange because she is a very proud Black woman.
My Mother reminds me often to embrace my African heritage yet she finds Locs to be gross. Locks are huge part of African culture. It's disappointing to see this hypocritical attitude coming from my mother on this subject. I tried to reason with my Mom but she gets defensive & judgmental. My mother is also uncomfortable with the fact that I'm in a interracial relationship because of the cultural differences. I'm proud myself (including my heritage) and my individual beauty. How is it now that I'm embracing my beauty through African styles, my pro African mom rejects this idea? Why can't I find someone else from another heritage/culture just as worthy and Handsome/beautiful?
My Love's culture doesn't really have a connection with Locs but he is open to the beauty of them. My Mom who says, "Embrace your Blackness" deems Locs as ugly & dirty looking. This confuses a lot. It's seem like whatever I do is it never good enough & my Mom is never happy for me. I'm reaching out to you for advice. All I wanted was her support & I'm getting everything but that.
I replied to her post and wanted to share some of my reply with others that maybe facing similar difficulties with their mother (or matriarch in their life):

This was my first ever attempt at a braid-out, and I've been loc'd for almost 5 years! Some might be surprised by this, but my favorite part of locs is how low maintenance they are, and elaborate hairstyles can be a laid back buzz kill. Nonetheless, I gave it a try and though the results were not as defined and short lived (because I didn't use a setting lotion), I would try it again.

My two favorite beauty vloggers made a video of advice to their teenage selves and it was just so incredibly sweet that I had to share!
I was the awkward ugly nerd in high school, so I can totally related to what they are saying.

Take your make-up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don't you like you?
Cause I like you

Take a breath

My husband purchased two tickets front and center to a one night only showing of the Harlem ballet locally.
In preparation I purchased make-up (I did not even own lip gloss) from Whole Foods Market that was plant based and natural. I found the perfect Youtube instructional video for a make-up novices like myself that appreciate a more natural look.
Hopefully I will snap a few pics of the full look and post later.
Update
The Harlem Ballet was AMAZING and we loved it. My make-up looked so natural and it gave me just enough UMPH and made me feel a bit more elegant without feeling weighed down! The natural make-up I bought washed off so easily and my skin looked more radiant after!

Sad part is, I was not in a place to listen to her video, but loved just staring at her sisterlocks, which are just beautiful!

I have not done a video in what seems like eons. Simply because I have yet to get a camera with a quality record feature. If I do return to making sisterlock videos, I want them to be of the highest quality for y'all. Frankly I don't even know if there is a true demand for me to do this. There are great girls out there already making videos to support our journies, is another one needed? And lastly I do nothing to my hair outside of my cleanse and conditioning routines, I love my tresses free flowing and simply. But, I would attempt style and update videos with only the highest qulaity products if there was strong support from my site regulars to do so!
Here is one, a quick search yielded. I would not use that gel, simply because of my ingredient snob status but, I loved Jam in my "baby hair" days. :)
This is a personal favorite, totally my style:
This video just seemed like a sisterlock informercial, which was awesome!
