Tonight, I lost my whole entire mind when I got it in my head to henna my locs. I forgot how difficult it was with loose natural hair let alone locks. Yes, henna is great and all natural and has been used by women for centuries, but it is not to be underestimated. I was so afraid of staining my skin, that as soon as I haphazardly put it in I washed it out.
See the photos:
I had to sit in the spa tub to apply because it was falling in big globs everywhere:
The AFTER is blah, EPIC Fail... but it did cover my sketch lint spots, single gray area and trapped hair follicles. Maybe it wasn't so blah after all:

It was not until I had my locks that I realized how much my hair dictated my own self image, attitude, culture and style. I never realized how I hid behind hair and how freeing it was to cut it all off. As hair focused as this and so many blogs are, and yes we should be proud of our crown and love it, our hair is just a tiny portion of who we are. The beauty that we are capable of in this world as we prepare for the next, is so much larger and more integral.

A fresh re-tightening made all the difference! Because I was an hour late, my consultant (Mofe) did the front and back. I will go back this weekend to complete the middle.
I forget how a great stylist can make your locks seem so immaculate and perfect.

My summers have not been so pleasant recently. Last year I was big as a house preggers with Jr, since college I'm usually not bikini ready and my combination skin tends be ugh!
This summer I'm not pregnant, I'm taking extra care of my skin with my special soaps, and I'm on a modified Paleo diet.

June 4th, 2012 marks two years of sisterlocks! I have to say that I am still loving it! I wanted to do a long thoughtful post but I was at work until 7 PM and my house is a mess!
Two great products that I use regularly as a part of my hair regime (even when I had a relaxer) and I also use jojoba for my family's skincare!

I've had my sisterlocks 2 years this month, been natural on and off almost 10 years, but I've had my skin my whole life. I love skin care products that use quality ingredients and get the job done right WITHOUT harsh synthetic ingredients. I've found just this in the Nubian Heritage products.
Nubian Heritage products DON'T contain Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates,
Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, DEA, PABA, Synthetic Fragrance or Artificial
Color. I use their African Black Soap and moisturize with Raw Shea butter infused with Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver daily! I am so happy I stumbled upon their products at my local Whole Foods Market.
To say thank you to my awesome readers, I am giving away a bar of Nubian Heritage soap, to enter leave your email address and why you want to win in the comment box or via email (info@sisterlocked.com) by June 29th.

I can not believe that I have been sisterlocked for 2 years this Month! This has been an adventure to say the least, but I love having sisterlocks and I love having natural hair!
There is something so freeing about washing and conditioning your own hair. Waking up with bedhead and being able to quickly finger comb and go. I can do as little or as much to my hair as I desire.
To Celebrate my joy and freedom, I want to give away some of my favorite natural hair products. Let me disclose that I work in finance for a living, the products I post I BUY with MY OWN money most of the time. The products that I do get from free usually come from friends and I tell the truth about my personal experiences and regimes. Not every product or method works for every kink and curl. So to share I am digging into my pockets to say thank you for reading my rants, proclamations and hair science products. Though few of yall comment, from my site stats and crap ton of direct emails, I know yall visit my site with a vengeance. So in appreciation I'll be hosting the most random hair anniversary giveaway ever!
I'll be starting with a tried and true favorite from my relaxed and curly fro days:
Organic Raw and Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar! To enter, leave a comment with your contact details and let me know if you want it and why! The last day to enter is June 15th, winner(s) will be contacted shortly after. Keep a look out for more exciting giveaways!

Sorry about the impromptu sabbatical, the past couple of days I have been living on prayer, coffee and super magical energy not derived from sleep or rest. But do not be concerned, there is much more to come!
I've been working on more guest posts since yall LOVED CaramelAlaMode's feature. I also have tons of random original hair pictures lined up for ya. I have a new homemade cleanser and conditioner that is to die for and super simple. I am in LOVE with it and you will too if you can get past the smell of the cleansing concoction... But I have been reclaiming my moisture, POW!

Because I was running late and had to function on but a few measly hours of rest due to a toddler with a cold, I simply finger combed my hair into a simple side part. I also sprayed in a little Jane Carter Solution Leave-In conditioner for a fresh scent and shine. I've been sweating my fat off at the gym recently and did not get a chance to cleanse my locs.

I had another re-tightening this weekend at Nubian Knots. The Locs are great and so is my new position. I went into further detail about making my larger "brotherlock" like sisterlocks smaller. It involves branching off the lock at the root and creating a new lock while maintaining the signature sisterlock grid.

First I want to respond and share some comments and suggestions I've received over the past two weeks:
Everyones hair is unique and their sisterlocks will be equally unique. I did not expect my sisterlocks to be exactly like another person's, but I did want a certain size throughout my entire head. The locks in the front are 1/4 the size of those in the back. Sisterlocks are installed in three sizes: small, medium and large, but I did not desire such a dramatic size difference. I've met seasoned sisterlock wearers who had gorgeous sisterlock and brotherlock combos, but I wanted to stay in the small and medium range.
Though micro-sisterlocks similar to Kreyola's are very common in the community, they are not without their demands. Some are not willing to maintain them regularly at home and others like myself are more that willing to balance professional re-ti's with at-home care.
Throughout any hair journey, you'll have some not so great moments and some second guesses. I think that it is important to remember what you want for your hair and keep true to that reasoning.
Part of being a Certified Sisterlock Consultant is agreeing to up hold the standards as dictated by the founders of the technique and network. If your consultant does not uphold these standards and they are registered, you as the consumer have certain rights. If you have issues with your install, address them right away to make sure they are rectified before you have to pay for it.
In order to not loose length, I can always comb out my sisterlocks. Depending on the size this could be a monster project and I would loose hair that may have otherwise shed naturally if not for being locked.
I was aware of lock merging techniques but I also have the option to also separate the larger locks. Splitting my locks will be laborious to say the least, but instead of paying an additional $500+ for a new set I can just see a consultant a bit more frequently. Then slowly but surely I can get the size locks I desire that will also fit perfectly into my present grid.
(Later Update) Give it some time. A few years into my loc journey, I stopped obsessing over the little things and I fell deeply in love with my imperfect locs.

Merry Christmas all my naturals. Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and enjoys the gifts of love, joy and time with family. For those with time to spare, I leave you with some fun videos about hair and styles that can be used for the remainder of the holiday season.
The above would be perfect with a little festive hair accessory.
This is pure perfection, I can't wait until my locks are long enough for this!
The above Micro-Sisterlocks are BEYOND gorgeous!
Love Chescalocs!

Will start working out soon, but this is me 2 weeks after giving birth. The little guy is now 3 weeks old and doing well. I feel like I pushed out two inches of hair when I pushed out our son. I am desperately seeking someone to re-ti my locks. My usual consultant takes like 8 hours to do a re-ti, which is ubber ridiculous. Since I am nursing and have not started pumping, I can not afford to be away from my son that long. Wish me luck!
My sisterlock new growth is really thick and I am trying to make sure the post pregnancy thinning does not destroy my progress.
He is doing well by the way and gaining weight way faster in comparison to his big sister.
