RaisingSelf.com, a website about career, marriage and motherhood, shared a post about intimacy and specifically sex in marriage:

"During the honeymoon phase, intimacy was the rule and not the exception. I wanted to hold my love's hand. I wanted to lean in close to him while watching tv or reading a book or surfing the internets. I wanted to snuggle into him while dozing off. But life happened: bills, kids, career, election 2016, and it chipped away at my capacity for intimacy and many forms of physical affection. It stopped being something fun, something relaxing and this exciting and beautiful part of our love; for no other reason than it was something I stopped being intentional about."

The point of Sex Your Husband September is removing the barriers of intimacy in your marriage. So barring illness or emergency, we are going to be intimate daily. That means

  • hand holding
  • french kissing
  • butt grabbing
  • couch cuddling
  • couples showering

Here's the Plan

  1. Not mentioning Sex Husband September and seeing if he mentions anything (less pressure and more fun)
  2. Increasing PDA (public displays of affection)
  3. Say yes (All ya gotta do is SAY YES)
  4. Initiate interaction
  5. Quickies when time is short or I'm exhausted or annoyed or wanting to read in bed
  6. Journaling, just to see if this "exercise" activates any thoughts, emotions or creative juices
  7. Daily intimacy

I'm participating, there are so many great things in my marriage and something I definitely need to be intentional about is intimacy in all of its wondrous forms.

See full article for details and let me know what you think, considering in participating in Sex Your Husband September, let me know in the comments below.

Have I mentioned that 2015 ranks in the top five for thee most stressful years of my adult life. There were so many moments of near crippling self-doubt. There was stress and anxiety the likes of which I have never experienced before. My marriage was a pendulum swing between intense friction and passionate support. My career faced innumerable challenges when my organization and team underwent some widespread restructure. I didn't feel like myself and I often isolated myself from my support group, my squad, my tribe - as they are often lovingly refereed to as.

The first few months of 2016, there was this incredible shift in multiple points of worry. I let go. I looked inward. I sought peace over certainty. Joy over worry. Community over isolation. 2016 would be the year of investing in relationships. Building something deeper. Being vulnerable with my allies and loved ones.

The moment the opportunity presented itself to have a tea party sponsored by Lipton, I knew which ladies I just had to invite and I'm glad I did.

Last Sunday was one of those perfectly timed and much needed moments with my squad. I had a rough morning and I needed their presence, their words, their insights, their wisdom, and their love.

It was the perfect afternoon to break bread, sip tea, and reconnect with some of the wonderful women I have the honor of calling friends.

We talked of love, of life burdens, of self care. We listened to each other and poured kinds words and relevant insights into each other's situations. All while sipping tea.

And what delicious Lipton tea it was.

The kind of herbal tea that was bold and flavorful. The tastes were unexpectedly complex and all my girlfriends gave unsolicited compliments with every sip. Every girlfriend requested to take a few packets home.

This was suppose to be a simple event, but it turned out to be so much more. The tea exquisite, The finger foods my girlie pie Kellie and I made, delicious. The experience of community, an unexpected blessing.

At the end a few of the guys crashed and nearly guzzled our tea while munching on our food.

Finger food heaven

My husband was obsessed with the tea, he made huge pitchers of ice tea five straight days in a row. If you would like to try their new black and herbal teas, here is a link for a coupon! If you haven't already this year, make some time to relax, sip tea, and chat with your community.

6. This messy high bun I put my hair in before bed and lazily leave up and wear to work for sometimes 5 days straight. I must stop this and I must either find time to maintenance my hair or find a hair dresser. Hair neglect is not prosperity, even when I manage to make it seem half way cute.

5.  Neglecting my romantic relationship. I'm focused man. I mean it, I am really focused! When you are as focused as I can be, I have just enough time for my day job, my mothering duties, and maybe helping one friend with a '"life crisis". Who suffers through all this superwoman living, BAE! That's not cool, that's not prosperity.

4. Shopping for things I don't need. I mean, have you ever seen a shirt and bought it on a whim, wore once and hated it. Like after washing and wearing it, you realize it actually does not compliment you or it looks exactly like 3 other shirts you own and never wear? Is that just me making this horrible mistake? How can a girl payoff bills and build wealth participating is such foolishness?!

3. Bored and/or absent minded eating. I'm kind of a health nut, so I stay loaded with healthy snacks and fruits, but I am an overeater. I will eat like 3 apples, 2 pears, a bag of nuts, some rice cakes and my lunch at my desk. I realized recently this was due to my Haitian roots. In Haiti, if you yawn, you are considered hungry and folks immediately offer/force feed you food. Now as an adult, I am subconsciously trained that when I feel fatigued or bored, I must eat!

2. Going to bed at 3 AM and/or getting less than 7 hours of sleep. Sleep is prosperity. It can help with stress, give your mind a reset to get your creative juices going, and help with mental health.

1. Procrastination. I need stop putting off tasks until the last minute. I need to make a plan to assign multiple 25-minute intervals completing variety of different to-do items

As some of you may know, I have two social startups I am looking to get off the ground, one is an online community for women who are often ignored within the wider faith-based community and the other is an idea for communal elder care facilities to provide more thoughtful and holistic options for care in old age (no matter their socioeconomic status).

I'm excited to announce that I was accepted as a Fellow in StartingBloc’s Los Angeles Institute early next year. StartingBloc is a non-profit organization that believes a small, committed group of people can change the world! They will link me up with the people, training and resources I need to help me get my businesses off the ground.

I am fundraising for the institute's tuition via Crowdrise and I would greatly appreciate your help raising the $1,250. See the link below, no amount is too small and if it is cost prohibitive to give at the moment, please share via social media!

Thank you!

I Need Your Help!

Both my parents endured extreme poverty during their respective childhoods in the Caribbean. I grew up with all these harrowing tales of hardship and survival being told at the dinner table. When the skewed ocular of peer pressure made me hyper-aware of my thrift store tennis shoes, I would stave off my cravings for designer kicks with the tales of my father's childhood feet covered in what could barely pass for acceptable footwear. When I would question why I was abiding the endless rigor of Honors and Advanced Placement courses in high school, I would recall that my mother was denied resources for continuing her education because of her gender.

My paternal grandfather died when my father was still a boy, as the oldest child, he had to end his academic education before reaching high school to work and help support his family. My maternal grandparents had a small sustenance farm in Haiti and my mother learned the meaning of hunger and drudgery very young. Though still quite modest by most standards, through relentless hard work and their personal faith, my parents were able to create a childhood much better than their own for my siblings and I.

Growing up, I knew we didn't have much and though poor by American standards, it did not compare to the poverty experienced by our extended family in Haiti.  Regularly my mother would save to send money for food and medicine for impoverished relatives and even allocate resources to attend mission trips with her church.

I grew up understanding that no matter how modest your means, there are those in far more dire circumstances and there is always room to give back. By doing so, you create a chain of giving and gratitude. So, a few years back,  I made time to volunteer in rural China, fighting to eradicate extreme poverty and inequality by helping students facing so many disparities have a better chance at higher education. In undergrad, I worked with multiple student organization to be a driver of change on and off campus. Now, I volunteer with an organization (Created) that rescues women from sex-trafficking and similar trades in Florida. A few years ago, an anonymous donor gave the group an old motel as a gift. Through fundraising and other donations, the building was turned into a residential rehabilitative facility that has been the first stop for many women starting new lives after years of suffering and abuse.

I have a demanding career, two small children, I run two blogs, and I have long list of other items that require my ongoing attention. But, because of the example set by my parents, I never hesitate to give time and/or money to empowering women, eradicating extreme poverty and volunteering my professional expertise to helping non-profits that do amazing work.

Western union believes that when money moves, better things happen. A business expands. A family connects. A child goes to college. Emergency aid arrives the moment it’s needed. An economy prospers, an opportunity opens, a community heals. This was our truth, my mother moved to America before my father. In the very beginning, we lived in this tiny two bedroom apartment with another family of four and we survived on my mother's modest income as a janitor and food worker, but the regular dollars sent via Western Union from my father in the Caribbean made all the difference in the world.

So when the opportunity presented itself to participate in their Chain of Betters project, I jumped at it. It’s an idea that empowers people with the opportunity to change the lives of others. As the money moves around the world, creating a chain of good deeds, together we can start to change lives in ways we wouldn’t have imagined was possible. This isn’t just saying money moves for better. This is proving it, together.

The morning of my birthday, I sat in an empty room and sobbed quietly.  There was this work related moment that got under my skin and penetrated my defenses. I was lost to a sea of emotions, vile emotions.

My husband had just left with our son to grab my little morning treats for my 8 AM dance party and my daughter was sound asleep in bed. So I sat in a dim room and pondered all the things I hated about my career or my personal life.

Why did I do this? I really don’t know. I don’t make a habit of drowning in the negative. No matter how bright and shiny your life/career/marriage is, if you try hard enough, you can believe it sucks. So I sat and I cried.

I regained my composure in a few minutes. I made some plans for Monday morning. I decided to throw all my cares and responsibilities to the wind and allow my husband to see all his surprise plans to fruition. My perspective shifted and my day became filled with the wonder of sunshine and joy.

I had an 8 AM dance party in a living room filled from floor to ceiling with a rainbow of colorful balloons.

I went plant shopping and bought beautiful green things to ground my space and my spirit.

We had brunch at my favorite café.

I had a pedicure with natural and organic ingredients from this boutique nail spa.

I saw an indie period drama, IN A THEATER! The husband encouraged me to pick out a film that was just for me. He endured and ended up enjoying Far From the Madding Crowd, a film adaption of a Thomas Hardy romantic drama with a strong female lead. We whispered hilarious commentary back and forth and I even cried a little for a male lead suffering from unrequited love.  For the first time in a long time, I didn’t multitask while “watching” a film.

I took a nap, sipped wine, and then had dinner with a bunch of new and random people. I went dancing with friends and watched a wonderfully vibrant and complex woman celebrate her birthday and enter a new chapter of her life.

I held my husband’s hand. I kissed his lips. I cuddled with my children. I pondered deeply about the girl I was, the woman I am, and person I wish to become in this next decade.  I accepted the things that I could not change and devised plans to change the things that I could. I finally let go of my 20’s and welcomed my 30’s.

Happy Birthday to me…

Hello there! Sorry I've been missing in action, alas life happens and I am in a real busy season with work, my fellowship program, my bustling personal life. My plate is full to say the least!

But I wanted to say hello, how are you? Are there any pressing questions for me, are there any posts I must do soon? Should I make another video, if so, about what? I WANT YOUR INPUT!

I WANT Your Input

Hello there! Sorry I've been missing in action, alas life happens and I am in a real busy season with work, my fellowship program, my bustling personal life. My plate is full to say the least!

But I wanted to say hello, how are you? Are there any pressing questions for me, are there any posts I must do soon? Should I make another video, if so, about what? I WANT YOUR INPUT!

Amongst my many adventurous hair desires, I kind of want to give myself loc bangs, but growing up in the era of Chappelle Show has left me with a Rick James impersonation fear!

Getting sisterlocks, for me, was about hair prosperity and looking like Dave Chapelle's Rick James is the opposite of hair prosperity for a girl. There are still so few depictions of dreads and braids in popular culture, so the ones you encounter kind of sear themselves into your brain.

What do you think, could I pull off loc bangs?

Could Loc Bangs Work For Me?

Please excuse my absence! Over a week ago after returning from a very spiritual and emotional "walk through the dessert" with some very amazing female leaders, I was thrown from my board after going down hill on a steep trail behind our home. I sustained a plethora of ugly injuries and had surgery yesterday on my elbow!

The surgery went well & I am resting at home! Many thanks for your prayers and well wishes! Special thanks to my dearest love and husband for serving and catering to my many needs everyday since the accident! Seeing his smiling face when I woke up from surgery filled me with such a striking abundance of love and continued adoration! Thank the Lord for you William!
