On Friday July 3rd, I attended #HappyAfroDayLA at Griffith Park in Los Angeles , CA and had the opportunity to soak in some sun and greenery with some of the most gorgeous naturalistas around.

Organized by Fro Girl Ginny, it was a celebration of curls. The selfie taking was non-stop.

I chatted it up with my girl Ashley Papel, we went to the same undergrad (University of South Florida) and she is over here in Southern California pursuing her acting and modeling dreams. She is so full of life and character!

So many lovely ladies were present.

In my opinion, the flyest chick there was in fact my mini-me.

Happy Fro Day LA

I want my post childbirth hair do to be some what cute as I take pictures and receive visitors. It seems silly but those pictures come back to haunt you! I also want to start the journey of re-claiming my non-pregnant self right.

My first attempt at the turban went really well. It survived a long drive out of town to visit the in-laws. For once I did not have to worry about the strange disheveled hair I always seem to get after falling asleep during a road trip.

I really like this look and received tons of compliments! It went so well that my sister tried her hand at it. She dry twisted the front and then untwisted.

Fashionable Turban on Afro and Sisterlocks

I mentioned recently that my baby shower hair was a massive fail and that I would try a few styles for labor and delivery. The first step in the battle to love your natural hair and treat it with tender care is knowing your hair type. I have always heard about 1a, 2b, 3a and 4b when describing hair type and curl patterns, but I have finally taken the time to discover mine. This not only helps in the maintenance of loose hair but in understanding how your hair will be when loc'd (if that is your goal one day).

I am a mixture 4a-4b

4 Facts

• Type 4 is kinky, or very tightly curled, with a clearly visible curl pattern

• Circumference: Crochet needle or even smaller

• The hair is very wiry, very tightly coiled and very, very fragile

• Type 4 hair can range from fine/thin to wiry/coarse with lots and lots of strands densely packed together

• Type 4 hair has fewer cuticle layers than any other hair type, which means that it has less natural protection from the damage you inflict by combing, brushing, curling, blow-drying and straightening it

• Type 4 hair is known to shrink up to 75% of the actual hair length

• There are two Type 4 subtypes:

•4a: Tightly coiled hair that, when stretched, has an "S" pattern, much like curly hair. It tends to have more moisture than 4b; has a definite curl pattern

Sister Spotlight: Fabulous Faby

Mother, sister, daughter, friend, child of God and wonderful young woman; Faby loves living life to the fullest! When an old college pal decided to return to the natural world with a fab and fierce hairstyle I had to share this with my sisterlocked family.
